First Assignment

In a reply to this post, please present your first thoughts about the topic you'd like to research for this course.  If possible, it should be something that you can further explore experientially while in Japan.  Given my own proclivities, if I were to do this I might do something about comfort food and teishoku.

    I’ve come up with some questions about image and fashion in Japan…
    How do people present themselves in college? On the streets of Tokyo? In rural areas? What will make you stand out in Japan? What will let you blend in? What does it mean to stand out or to blend in? Where does traditional dress fit into modern life?

    I would like to compare and contrast traditional Japanese dance and classical ballet. In particular, I would like to focus on the development and function of dance attire and the similarities and differences of techniques, movements, and learning/teaching styles.

    I'm thinking about looking into questions about Japanese medical care, particularly about how hospitals function in comparison to American hospitals. I am working with ProjectsAbroad to set up a hospital internship the month after the end of the semester at AIU, and would approach a student office to ask for help in research about the subject.
